Hey all you mommas out there!
My idea for this blog came from a deep sense of feeling lost in motherhood. When my son was born I was living in the midst of the perfect storms of change. I was married for just over a year, a new mom to a son, and we had just moved to a new city that was three and a half hours from my mom and village. Though I did have my husband’s family for support – and that helped tremendously – it was still a difficult transition.

Unlike some in the African American community, I have no qualms about going to therapy. So, when I found myself dealing with post-partum depression and struggling to manage, I went back to therapy to sort myself out. It was in one of those sessions – while I was being extra hard on myself for not juggling work, house, new kid and overall life well – that I said something that really changed my life. My therapist asked me why I am so hard on myself and how I would talk to a friend who was dealing with the same troubles. I told her that I knew I needed to be easier on myself and that I wish I would do like our professors did during a really hard class in college and grade myself on a curve. Because when it comes down to it, being a mom is one of the most challenging, learn-on-your-feet experiences one ever goes through. Really, we should all mom on a curve.
Then something clicked in my brain.
Mom-ing on a curve is a place where you can get advice and thoughts on all of the glorious struggles that come with mommyhood. It’s a community of acceptance, where all moms can come to obtain a little bit of the grace that we are so unlikely to give ourselves. So, come on in, take a seat, find a friend, and share your concerns, experiences, and knowledge. Because we are all in this together!
